Some Quotations

I like to read, and read over, good quotes. They seem to keep me in a more positive and useful frame of mind, even if the quote is a warning (like this first quote).

--Our lifetime may be the last that will be lived out in a technological society.  Isaac Asimov

--Civilization is just a slow process of learning to be kind.   Charles L. Lucas

--There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge.    Bertrand Russell

--We're drowning in information and starving for knowledge.   Rutherford D. Rogers

--Life is a long lesson in humility.  Sir James M. Barrie

--Maturity is the capacity to endure uncertainty.  John Finley

--Every time history repeats itself, the price goes up.    Old saying

--Humankind cannot bear very much reality.   T. S. Eliot

--A [person's] ruin lies in his tongue.  Egyptian saying

Just Noting

I put "just noting" as the title of this post because I wanted to note the chaos our president as engendered recently. And because it's been so many incidents I've got them muddled up in my mind. So I'll list them from a few headlines.

--"Trump Demands That Bondi Move 'Now' to Prosecute Foes"

--"Trump Escalates Attacks on Political Opponents After Charlie Kirk's Killing"

--"Threatening Broadcasters, Trump Takes a Page From the World's Autocrats"

--"As Political Violence Rises, Trump Condemns One Side"

That's enough for now.

Remembering

I clearly remember why I started this blog. It was because of the election of Donald Trump for president in 2016. I was stunned American could vote that person in as president. I do realize a bulk of society was thrashing about for a change. But was Mr. Trump the answer?

Now, nine years later, we have Mr. Trump again as president. And he is now making his first term seem like just four years of ineptness. So far in this term it surpasses ineptness and gets into revenge and hatred.

I just watched a documentary, "Memory of the Camps," on PBS' Frontline. It showed Nazism in a raw brutality that few books could do. Seeing it, and I realize this may sound outlandish, I couldn't help thinking what may be in store for many on the left who Trump views as "scum" or "vermin."
